GREENIE GUSHER REVISITED

  Volume 2, Issue 5.................................................................................. December 1, 1999

  Beaumont, TX

Notice the new byline?
Yep, We’re back in old Beaumont town. We moved August 28 and are now in semi-retirement. We’re working part time at the John Gray Small Business Development Center at Lamar University.

Now to the more important things. A RETRACTION. It was Paul Crozier and Dale Parmley from the class of ’54 who won the reunion golf tournament; Not the class of ’56 as previously reported. Sorry fellows, but you would think that one could believe a judge when he tells you something.

Don Marshall was in town from California recently. James and Orelia Robbins hosted a party for Don and a few friends from the class of ’54. Benny Pattison, Tony Singletary, Ronny Walker, Mickey Sellers and I attended stag. Wilberne McNease and Jerry Bell escorted their spouses. Mary Ann Wills-Welty and Annie Ruth Bobino-Finley brightened up the crowd.

Two of Orelia’s brothers also showed up. One of them, Wilton DeCuir, was well known by South Parkers. This writer along with Johnny Prejean (’54), Mickey Sellers, Delores Cropper-Briggs (’54) and Jimmy Madaffri (’55) attended St. Anthony’s Grammar School with Wilton.

At the party, there was some discussion about the old Henke’s on Highland Ave One summer, a few of us did time there. L. J. Breaux, Tony Singletary, Louis Sandidge and this writer worked together. Oh yes, Benny Pattison worked with us for a short time, but he chose baseball over Henke’s, so he wasn’t with us long. Those of us who stayed did have a lot of fun working overnight on Monday unloading trucks. It’s best not to discuss the rest of the story here. The statute of limitations may not have run out

It’s never pleasant to report the passing of friends or their parents, but it is sometimes necessary. James Robbins recently lost his father, a fine gentleman and a former police officer. Wilberne McNease’s mother also went to her final reward after a long illness. We Greenies also lost the other half of the Bowers twins. R. D. Bowers (’55) passed away recently following twin J. D. whom we lost less than a year ago.

News has been very thin the last few months. We have heard from Martha Sitton-Dill (’55), Nelda Scarbrough-Letsinger (’55) and Leldon "Skeeter" Woods (’54). All seemed to enjoy the Gusher, but politely reminded me that I have fallen down on the job this year. Sorry ‘bout that. The move, job change and increased social life kinda bogged me down. But, I promise to do better.

Being semi-retired, we will find it necessary to make a change in distribution. We will e-mail the Gusher to John Watson and he will publish it on the web page as before. If you have an e-mail address, we will assume you can read, down-load and print the Gusher from the internet. We will continue mailing to those who don’t have e-mail. Please, let us know if you want to continue getting copies in the mail.

In the move, we also lost some addresses and requests for back issues. Please let us know if you want back issues of the Gusher. Also, send us the address or e-mail address of anyone who may want to receive the Gusher by mail.

Charlie-Chuck Clifton (’54) is still working on the drilling ship of the coast of Equatorial Guinea, Africa. He’s on six weeks and off six weeks. He came home the week of the party at James Robbins’ house, but couldn’t make it. Charlie was having his pipes checked and cleaned. He even called his plumber "Doctor".

Johnny Watson (’54) and his child bride, Mildred were out of town for quite awhile. They were visiting off spring in Arizona, we think. If you haven’t seen the web page they’ve put together, you really should.

As you can tell, we haven’t received much news lately, but we really want to publish this issue. It’s been too long between Gushers.

We did receive a nice e-mail from Alma Davis (’55). You Amelia folks know her as Myra. She’s had an interesting life. Her former husband, a civil engineer, was sent to Zambia, Africa to construct a building for the Baptist Church. They lived there for four years. At SPHS, Alma worked for Mr. Peavy, the drivers’ ed teacher as office assistant. Since he was an officer in the Teachers’ Credit Union, she also did work for him there. This gave her background to become a credit union loan officer and manager. Alma has three successful children and lives on Lake Worth near Fort Worth, Texas. She enjoys watching the birds, raccoons and deer in her back yard.

That’s about all we can come up with this time. Please send us some interesting stories or give us a call at 409-861-3167. We’d like to print more often, but need good stories.

If you haven’t donated to the stamp fund, we would appreciate a $5.00 donation. To those of you who have already donated, THANK YOU. If you are not interested in receiving the "Gusher", please let us know.

It is fun hearing about old friends and they are just as interested in hearing about you. Let us know what’s happening in your life and we’ll print it in the next issue.

Send it to:
