No longer a "juvenile", but delinquent nevertheless.
Sorry we’ve been so slow with new issues. We’ve been
pretty busy this summer with changes in our social and career life. The
next issue will probably have a new location by-line. More about that
later.
If you’re getting on-line with the internet, check out Johnny and Mildred Watson’s web page. You’ll find it at: www.geocities.com/researchtriangle/forum/8848 It is really a good web site. They’ve done a very good job. Thanks Johnny and Mildred. We were informed at the end of April that Charles Anthony (’55) had passed away. His brother James (’53) preceded him in death a few years earlier. That’s two good Greenies gone. If memory serves, both of them worked at Quality Grocery across from the South Park Pharmacy. We’ve received lots of information on South Parkers from Ginger Davis-Dishman. She sends us newspaper clippings from the Beaumont area. One article was about math teacher Carl Dillon. You may not have known that Mr. Dillon was a Navy pilot during WWII. He flew PBY’s (navy seaplane) in the Aleutian Islands. Another article related the tragic story of Jon Cloy (brother of Stein Cloy). Jon had cancer and was given the wrong prescription by a Beaumont druggist. This led to his untimely death. His family will appreciate your prayers. Sandra Barras-Boyette (’55) sent us a clipping about the retirement of Betty Ruth Wortham-Corgey (’54). She recently retired as Lumberton Primary School Principal. Betty, or "bubbles", as some of us called her, spent 32 years as an educator. We certainly wish her the best. Also wish she could have attended the reunion. It would have been good to see her. We received a long article on the Melody Maids from Ginger. How many or our classmates were part of Eloise Milam’s singing group? These girls did a lot of traveling and singing in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s. The memory is getting short. Don’t remember if we reported on Wayne Jones (’55). Wayne has had brain surgery and treatments at M.D. Anderson in Houston. We hope he gets well soon. Our prayers are with him. We’ve heard from John Morrison (’52) and his wife of 42 years, Sue Davis (’55). John is retired from Allied Signal and they reside in Kansas City, Mo. They have three grown children and seven grand children. In a previous issue, we wrote about Brice Hunter. The other Home Ec teacher was Ms. Sara Hicks Dutschmann. She and Shirley Carvell Green (’54) have enjoyed being members of the Southeast Texas Orchid Society the past 25 years. Ms. Hicks recently suffered a stroke and is taking speech therapy. You can write to Ms. Hicks at 690 Roundbunch Rd., Bridge City, TX 77611 or call her at 409-735-3221.

Speaking of Shirley, a classmate and I ran into her and hubby Robert Green (’53)
at the Players Casino this past weekend. That’s a pretty glove, Shirley.
Robert, maybe you should re-read the book.
Wanda Sue Taylor-Holden (’54) sent a note about her experiences at SPHS. She and Glenda Irle-Norwood were Amelia girls. Both were pretty upset when they were transferred to South Park, because they didn’t know anyone there. But, they got over it when they found that Greenies are pretty nice folks. Wanda talked about all the problems that J.C. Dishman and Guy Stonecipher gave to the school bus driver, James "Honey Child" Manning. Wanda’s first husband was killed in a boating accident in 1959. She’s been married to Curtis Holden for 39 years. They have two children and five grand children. Don Marshall (’54) wrote of his visit to the YMCA of the Rockies. He visited with Madie Williams Behn (’54) and hubby. They supervise the food service at the "Y". Don says they had a very nice visit. Gloria Turner-Brown (’54) e-mailed that her Greenie sister, Joan (’55) and Mary Jo have retired and are living at the beach. Joan is in Galveston and Mary at Crystal Beach. Lots of Greenies at Crystal. Gloria’s husband Gordon has muscular problems in his arms and legs and is taking physical therapy twice a week. They enjoy having grandchildren and their great-grandson over for the summer. We will submit this issue of the Gusher to Johnny Watson to be published on the web site. We enjoy doing the gusher and will mail it to anyone who wants a copy. But, if you can get it on the Web, let us know. It will save some printing and postage costs. It is fun hearing about old friends and they are just as interested in hearing about you. Let us know what’s happening in your life and we’ll print it in the next issue. Send it to: R. H. If you have an e-mail address, please send it to us. We’ll publish it in the next issue. Both e-mail and mailing addresses will soon change. We’ll let you know as soon as possible. The changes will be sent to Johnny Watson for publication at the Web Site. We will print more often in the future, so please forgive the tardiness. To view e-mail addresses click on the
